About Rafael J Cortina

In my work, I truly believe that self-awareness is the key to personal healing, and will restore the growth process. As individuals learn more about their true selves, and learn to love, accept, and appreciate who they really are growth takes place naturally.

I am a bilingual (English-Spanish) Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has worked in both Mexico and the United States. I have over 20 years of experience in individual, couples, family and group therapy. I believe I am personally warm, understanding, emphatic, patient, caring, and compassionate with clients. And feel strongly that the nature of human beings tends toward growth and harmony.  Along the way, the natural ability to self-regulate may unfortunately be interrupted. However, through the path of self-awareness, and self-responsibility we are able to restore our natural abilities and utilize our full potential, and live healthy life.

In my work I utilize a wide variety of therapeutic techniques, which include gestalt exercises and experiments,  dream work, imaginal dialogues, and emphatic reflection. These techniques are used to help clients, gain awareness and acceptance of their true self, restore self-regulation, regain responsibility, and re-own their power and potential

In my work, I truly believe that self-awareness is the key to personal healing, and will restore the growth process. As individuals learn more about their true selves, and learn to love, accept, and appreciate who they really are growth takes place naturally.
