About Jerry Smith
Dr Smith has been doing psychotherapy for over 45 years and he says he still feels he is thriving in his work. Because of the range of his training, his work is eclectic in mode. Dr Smith has written two books: COUPLE THERAPY and HIDDEN MEANINGS and continues to offer lectures throughout the Bay Area. He works with individuals, and couples. He also works with families and has completed the highest level of post doctoral training offered by Virginia Satir, MSW, at Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto, CA. He initiated the first couples workshops at Esalen Institute, Big Sur, CA beginning in 1965 and has led over 100 workshops at Esalen. The workshops were titled CLOSE YET FREE: The Patch to Making a Good Relationship Even Better. Most of his work is short term. Number of meetings is tailored to the needs of the client. Meetings can be weekly or as far apart as every six weeks. Work as a psychotherapist is a family matter. His father was a psychiatrist. One son is a LMFT doing clinical and management work. The other son is a Licensed Psychologist and was a prison psychologist with the California Dept. of Corrections for 20 years.
